چکیده
This note describes simulation studies of the H beam matching condition between a 750keV rod radio-frequency quadrupole (RFQ) and the existing Fermilab drift tube linac (DTL). The RFQ design used in this study is that of an existing RFQ designed and built by A. Schempp from IAPGoethe University. It is assumed that the medium-energy beam transport (MEBT) line uses hardware built for a positron emission tomography (PET) project. The MEBT is made out of two Alpha magnets and seven quadrupoles and was designed by D. Larson. The beam from the exit of the RFQ is matched to the entrance in the DTL in all three dimensions. The study shows that up to 65mA of Hbeam can be transported and cleanly injected into the present linac. Introduction For the PET project[1] a special type of the MEBT[2] was designed and built, Figure 1. This system was used to match 1MeV single charged He beam coming from a 200MHz

First observation of the exchange of transverse and longitudinal emittances.
An experimental program to demonstrate a novel phase-space manipulation in which the horizontal and longitudinal emittances of a particle beam are exchanged has been completed at the Fermilab A0 Photoinjector. A new beam line, consisting of a TM(110) deflecting mode cavity flanked by two horizontally dispersive doglegs has been installed. We report on the first direct observation of transverse ...
متن کاملSelective Resonant Extraction from the Fermilab Main Injector Using Electron Lens
We propose to use an electron lens for slow extraction of proton bunches from the Fermilab Main Injector. Negatively charged electron beam colliding with protons causes positive tune shift proportional to the electron current. If the resulting tune satisfies resonance condition, protons move to larger betatron amplitudes as in conventional slow extraction systems. Time variation of the electron...
متن کاملChallenges to the Fermilab Linac and Booster Accelerators*
A report on the challenges confronting the Fermilab Linac and Booster accelerators is presented. Plans to face those challenges are discussed. Historically, the Linac/Booster system has served only as an injector for the relatively low repetition rate Main Ring synchrotron. With construction of an 8 GeV target station for the 5 Hz MiniBooNE neutrino beam and requirements for rapid multi-batch i...
متن کاملSummary of the Fermilab Proton Driver Design Study*
This paper is a summary report of the Proton Driver design study that has recently been completed at Fermilab. It describes the design of a new 16 GeV high intensity rapid cycling synchrotron as a replacement of the present Booster. The major design goals are: (1) 1 MW beam power; (2) 1 ns (r.m.s.) bunch length. The construction will be staged. It has also an upgrade path to 4 MW.
متن کاملStudies of Photo-emission and Field Emission in an Rf Photo-injector with a High Quantum Efficiency Photo-cathode
An 18 MeV electron photo-injector facility was constructed at Fermilab in collaboration with UCLA, INFNMilano, University of Rochester, and DESY. The photoinjector is now being operated in partnership with the Northern Illinois Center for Accelerator and Detector Development. The facility consists of an RF gun [1, 2] with a cesium telluride (Cs2Te) photo-cathode [3] excited by a pulsed ultra-vi...
